BLACK FAMILY HOMESTEAD
My Story
Hey, my name is Alissa Black. I hold a Masters Degree in Education, and I’m in long-term recovery from an extreme case of Functional Neurological Disorder (FND). I’m about 90% healed and still making steady gains. After being told there was no cure, I threw everything I had—every skill, every resource, and every ounce of determination—into finding a way to heal myself. Necessity, they say, is the mother of invention.
My FND was so severe that I could barely walk or even stand up on my own for over a year, losing much of my muscle mass. I spent days bedridden, others seizing on the floor, all while enduring verbal and emotional abuse. At my lowest point, I was the sole caregiver for my husband, a 100% disabled Iraq war veteran in addiction recovery, while his Great Aunt Ethel worked to tear us apart. She abused me, manipulated him into direct-depositing his paycheck into her account for approximately two years, and pushed for our divorce.
In the end, I lost everything that mattered—my health, my independence, my career, and even my marriage. My husband left me at my lowest, because he was at his lowest too. My parents had to step in to care for me. It felt like evil had won, and this stupid, stubborn sickness had kept me from fighting back.
I lost everything.
BUT I GOT IT ALL BACK—AND MORE.
I rose from the ashes to earn my master’s degree, master new skills, and rebuild everything from the ground up—my businesses, my husband, my marriage, my reputation. And it all started with rebuilding myself.
I’ll teach you how to do the same.
Evil doesn’t get the last laugh. We do.
